Well when I relax with my bali I like to be watching tv or listening to music.

When I get upset for some reason I just seem to go to my bm and just beat the **** out of it. After a few aggresive swings and hurt knuckles I sometimes turn on some classical music and swing away. This just seems to make my worries go away and make me feel better. Does anyone else do this or anything in that maner?

Another thing, it seems that classical music makes all you're routines'seem to flow better. Try it and give me some info.:D

I don't really think this is on topic but I wrote this post because I felt like maybe someone else does the same thing to relax. Another reason I wrote this is because the end of my day ended up screwing up my good day.

Well, I have busted my knuckles many times when overstressed :D
I don't flip in front of my TV, because I sit pretty low and my latch hits my floor or the stacks of magazines next to my couch. I do love having a knife in my hands while watching TV though.
It has become a habit to put on some music when I feel the need to flip, or I start to flip when I put on some music.
I use classical music, hip-hop, or some good oldies like Black Sabbath, Mötorhead, or Jimi Hendrix to flip to.

As you can tell by my Avatar, I'm more than a regular fan of Sabbath. :D

But hey, you mentioned Classical, have you ever flipped to Beethoven's 5th or the 9th? Beethoven was like the Metallica of his day. So powerful he made some people wince at the power and tempo changes (something people poo poo about Heavy Metal and Speed Metal, there are lots of similarities to Classical, this is one thing).

Heartbreaker, Streetfighting Man and Gimme Shelter by the Rolling Stones have an undeniable groove to flip to.

Master of Puppets and Enter Sandman by Metallica, also, undeniable groove. One by Metallica has nice cymbal accents throughout. You can pick to flip to lead or rhythm guitar or the accents of the bass, snare, toms or cymbals to this particular genre of music...

When you take a song like Metallica's "Master of Puppets" or Sabbath's "Iron Man," you notice there is not one single riff that can define the song on rhythm guitar, there is a series of riffs, thematic, themes, a riff is a theme that repeats, some Metal is like Classical in this way too.

Another really good one that has a riff building to crescendo early on is Slayer's "South of Heaven." Great song to flip and twirl.

That's what relaxes me, good music and something to flip to. Sometimes, you can just sit and marvel at the music and how it is constructed, and sometimes, you're like, "Screw'it, I'm just listening!" Both are OK. Just like sometimes you sit and watch the knife and other times you just flip it. :D

When I'm feeling really stressed out, I try not to stop manipulations for at least 5 minutes straight. No pauses of any kind. That tends to take most the energy needed to be stressed out. :) And today, I have begun the painful process of not smoking. So, when I want a smoke, I flip. Like when I'm looking at the smokes on my desk... like right now, and I think about how much I want one... and the smooooth satisfying taste, and the sweet sweet nicotine.... :( *click* *clack* *click click click* *SNAP* Much better. :p

On the weekend, after a few Lieny's (ahhhhhh), I like to flip drunk. I know how dangerous that sounds. But I try to keep the manipulations sloppy on purpose. Keep it really loose and let gravity do the work. Then someone says, "Hey Dave, do that thing where you throw it in the air." Then I bleed.

I do most of my flipping in my theater room. I'll flip while watching t.v. or movies, but lately I've been doing alot of flipping to NIN, Mark D., Incubus, Art of Noise, Paul Schwartz "Aria" & "Aria2", and yes Don you are so very correct about the Metallica, have you tried flipping to S&M (Symphonic Metallica) highly recommended if you have not.

Blasto, I know how you feel to. I have not rolled my self a cigarette in some time, I'm more of a social smoker to begin with but it sure makes those hand changovers a bit difficult with a cigarette in the other hand (if it's in your mouth the smoke goes right to the nose and eyes). I to enjoy flipping with a little alcohol flowing through my blood stream (or allot, guess it depends on the weekend), it keeps me on my toes, granted I'm not as daring when under the influence but I like to be able to perform all of my hobbies in any state of mind, Drunken MA's of any kind are nothing new (the most difficult is Drunken Gymnastics:D < I've got a really funny story about this one if anyone is curious>) For a really good time with some music, I'd recommend Aphex Twin (try keeping up with that beat!)

I think clicking along to Bucephalus Bouncing Ball would make my hand numb :p

Now that you mention it, I remember trying to hold a cigarette in the same hand I was manipulating with. Long story short, the cherry exploded upon impact and my nice shirt now has a galaxy of little black marks on it.

Thank Richard D. James somebody knows what I'm talking about!:D Thats a good one Blasto! My favorite is the "Girl/Boy" song so many different rythems to choose from, slow and soothing or fast and furiously chaotic. Such a beautiful blend of melancholy :D

Back in the old days, when we were first learning the art of the balisong..we'd commonly flip while watching television. We'd sit in our comfy spots and keep our eyes on the tv as much as possible, getting our hands (and paws) to learn the moves so that it would all be second nature..that way we could do the moves without thinking.Yes,we made plenty of mistakes and got sliced & diced once in a while...but it was worth it.

We also flipped while listening to music, which back then we were listening to classic rock, heavy metal, blues, progressive rock and some jazz.Since several of us were also musicians,we'd flip during breaks in practicing, and would also find ways of incorporating the balisongs into our playing. Our guitarist would use one in a way similiar to a slide, and also use it to get new sounds out of his guitar. The bass guitarist did the same, and also used it to hammer the strings once in a while. As a drummer,I used a pair to get a few different sounds out of my drum kit...but only in sections where I was able to set aside my drumsticks for a short time.

These days,I'll flip while listening to classical, celtic & renaissance, country, jazz, blues, classic rock, heavy metal and progressive rock.I still flip while watching tv..and even while reading a book.

Every Day while working I can hear the little clippity, claps, snaps, and raps coming from the freshly carpeted master bedroom of what ever house I'm working in. Thats Blade 420 tryin out his latest moves. Then Its my turn to take a break and have alittle Bali practice in someones new house. Watch out for that blood on the new Carpet. Ohh, they will never notice.
