Yesterday I bought 2 new benchmade 910 strykers with the black blade coating. I threw the boxes away. This morning I was looking at them and the blade is not marked as to what kind of steel it is made of. Does anyone know how to tell? Thanks. Roger

Check out <A HREF="http://www.benchmade.com/complete_product/modified_locking.htm#model 910">this site</A>.

The specs claim ATS-34, straight from the horses mouth. I don't know any other way, such as litmus test like experiments, to tell the difference between ATS34 and CM154 (or other steel materials).

Benchmade uses only ATS-34 as far as I know in the stryker series...And HSS, but that would be marked. If not, put both knives with the tip in a lemon. The one which corrodes in a few minutes is the HSS one...

Send one to me, I'll sharpen it a little, and get back to you.

But seriously, the easiest way is to sharpen one. If it feels like you trying to sharpen the corner of jagged glass, it's ATS-34. If you get a nice, smooth feel during the sharpening stroke, it must be M2, since I don't think BM has started using 154CM on the 910 series, yet.
