How Do You Keep Track?

Does anyone use any sort of software to keep track of their knives? I've seen databases for guns, but nothing for knives.

Better hope it's password protected.

Cause I wouldn't want my significant other finding out how many I have. :(

Be careful! :)

I put together a simple database using DDH Software's HanDBase that runs on any PalmOS device, Windows, and I think Mac's as well. I've thought about publishing it as freeware/shareware, but haven't made a decision yet. I'm waiting for some modifications to the file size in the current version of HanDBase before I'll made a decision. If there's interest, I'll look into publishing it.

Here's what it tracks:

Type (kitchen, fixed, folder, multi-tool, etc)
Maker
Model
Name
Blade Style
Blade Material
Blade Finish
Blade Length
Blade Thickness
Blade Hardness
Weight
Liner Material
Handle Material
Clip
Lock Mechanism
Overall Length
Closed Length
Sheath Material
Special Markings
Special Features
Cost

Most of these support user-editable lists, so you can, for example, add a maker that isn't among the 42 already there.

If anyone's interested, send me email. If there's enough interest, I'll work out a way to do a survey for suggestions later.

Oh, and it is already password-protected.

I have my "knife-log" typed-out on MS Word, and that works just fine for me.:).

I have some knives i dont know where i bought them -
and sold a few but dont knowto whom-

i try my best to keep track of my keepers by making pics of them and
post at my HP, but sometimes i`m late.

I use the spreadsheet program that came with my computer, probably pretty much the same as glockman99 uses MS Word. I keep track of maker, date ordered, date received, type of knife, OAL, price, blade material, handle material, etc.! Spreadsheet allows you to show a running total of your purchases.

I keep it all in my head. Which, according to others, should be under constant examination.

Hey codeman,

Just wondering if you could modify your database a little for us makers? Instead of maker, have a few fields such as client, address, phone etc. This would help me keep my clients organized on my Handspring Visor that is with me 24-7.

Just food for thought.

Have a list in MS Word. 29 so far. Very depressing when you can see how much you've spent on your "habit"....

Nah! Think of it as an investment..... in yourself :D

Excel is my fame to claim. . .or is that claim to fame. Any who'z. . .it works.

I also have a complete photo/description thingy cataloged on "PowerPoint."

I really don't know why I go thru all the trouble. . .for one knife.
