How do you knock down the brite stainless, inexpensively.

Have a couple knives I really like, stainless steel, but would like to have a less brite finish. Other than a can of spray paint what would be inexpensive?

Thanks,
Tom

Grizzly imports ( http://www.grizzlyimports.com ) makes something they call a "rust eraser". In three grits, coarse, medium, and fine. These are all mildly abrasive and will put fine scratches on a mirror finish that will definately take the brightness down. If you are careful and go in only one direction (say back and forth along the longitudinal axis of the knife) they will take a mirror polish and turn it into a nice satin finish. That may be what you are after. Would recommend the medium or fine for your application. They are only about $5 a block, and a block will do many many knives.

Thanks for the great input. I will try the abrasive pad first, then decide whether to move on from there.

Thanks again,
Tom

ps. I'll post my results.

Dont go back and forth, start toward handle and let it run off tip, repeat as nescessary. Back and forth will give you unsightly turn around lines in the finish.
