How do you know if an edge is convex?

Hey guys, just got my bk-16 today and plan to convex the edge. I will most likely use the sand paper method, but how will I know when its completely convex? I mean obviously it will look more rounded but is it a simple as that?

Cheers, Mitch

some sharpie on the edge can help if you are new to sharpening, If you are taking the marker off you know you are hitting that spot and you have a good angle. Hopefully that helps if I understood what you were asking. The 16 is a great knife congrats and be sure to post some pictures. Welcome to the forum :)

Yeah, you should be able to notice a difference from a V edge to a convex...Go and watch some of Virtuovices videos on youtube, he's got a ton of convexing videos. Remember to try to remove the "shoulders" (the portion from the bevel down to the edge) on the knife and not round the edge off itself. Good choice on the 16 too, damn good blade.

I think "better" is subjective...a razor sharp edge is a razor sharp edge. I think convexing the edge mainly makes it a tougher more durable edge.

By "better" I mean it seems to bite deeper into wood. Not that it makes the knife sharper.
