I found a place on line that has knife handle wood about 1/3 of what I've been paying. They have actual pictures of what you are buying. They have no phone contact but do list an address.

They have a pay pal option. Is it possible to scam through pay pal? Could they clean out the account? what if there is only a few dollars more in the pay pal account than the purchase price? would it be worth trying to see what ,and if they ship? Is it possible they could ship a nice handle block only to steal funds later?

Just seems too good to be true,I mean a nice piece of Ambyona Burl 1.2"x2"x5" for $12.00???? It is on sale but I always think that whatever sounds too good to be true usually is.

Yeah People can scam you through PayPal. PayPal is one of the top ways people get scammed. Just read the fine print in the paypal. They will usually never reimburse you either unless its there fault, Which never happens... Seriously paypal gives a false security its crazy. Id be more willing to give out a credit card than paypal. Credit card companies will actually reimburse you when you get screwed over by an online scam. If you paypal is linked to you bank account it could be bad news, even if you only have a couple dollars on your paypal account. I dont believe they could draw out more money at a later date though. I'm not sure though. Hackers are smart as hell... And could pretty much do anything with personal information that isn't protected as you think. Actually the SAFEST way to buy anything online is to go to CVS pharmacy, or the like, and buy an Online Shopping Card, from VISA or MASTERCARD. Its simple as pie, and you just throw it away afterward. Its no way connected to you, cant be overdrawn, and cant hurt you in anyway. If they did scam you and lost your money you deposited on this, Remember its considered a credit card, so they'll reimburse you! I believe you can get them free from certain banks as well, cuz the pharmacy costs an extra couple dollars to activate. It acts as a Debit card, and even though its called an Online shopping card, you can use the last few cents left at a store so there's none wasted. Just remember to select CREDIT, at a store, or during online checkout.

But About the scam, What exactly is the name of the address of the site? Post it here and ill look around. There are a ton of sites that show users what sites have been shown to be scams. You can just Google the name of the site, plus the word scam after it to see if any hits come up on it.

EDIT:
I'll tell you if I decide not to risk it.If I go for it and it works out,I'll sell you a couple nice pieces at cost.

LOL what?????!!! your gonna hide the name from us so we cant get a deal as good as you, even though we were just trying to help? LOL... PLUS your gonna charge him extra?! Im gonna find the site myself and post it here for everyone to see then.

No guys,I'm not trying to be a -------.I would just like a few pieces of nice wood if this works out.I just didn't want someone here to buy it all before I got a chance at some.I didn't say I would charge extra,I said I would sell some at cost.
Actually I wouldn't mind if someone here offered me the same deal. You take the risk, buy some and sell me a couple pieces at cost.

Gotcha, Mistook you. When you said at a cost, I thought u meant an extra fee. I see what you mean on someone taking the lot... I see a ton of people do it in the exchange forum when stuff like burl goes out for sale. Or all the best ones get bought instantly. But I found cheaper ones online, at bigger sizes. Search on Google shopping for Amboyna Burl and go to SORT BY and select Price: Low to high. there's a bunch of different companies that beat that one you named, plus there more reliable. But If you get it use the shopping card, i mentioned, if your worried.

Purchasing using paypal is safe, you may not get your item you purchased but its difficult or impossible using your acct for them to clean you out if thats what you are worried about.

Wrong.

I've been selling and buying on eBay for going on 10 years now. And, I can assure you, PayPal is an extremely safe payment system that absolutely takes care of the purchaser. In fact, some buyers use PayPal's system against sellers; often ending up with both the item they purchased and a refund.

All it takes is for a seller to not have a tracking number to prove shipment when the buyer makes the claim....and poof, they end up with both. That's why I started shipping exclusively with priority mail to get a tracking number. Got tired of the mail taking too long, someone filing a claim, and PayPal giving a refund.

As long as someone doesn't have direct access to your PayPal account (ie: username and password) they can't really do anything with it, as far as hacking goes. Make sure, when you check out on their page, that it doesn't take you to a "spoof" page that asks you to log in with your name and password.

I dont know how many of you have websites but a month ago I had someone from Singapore try to scam me. They contacted me with an order for $4500 in knives and multitools, I told them I could only do business thru paypal, then they increased their order to $10,000, I still told them the same thing, paypal only. Finally they increased the order to $15,000 and still wanted me to go online and put in the credit card numbers which did not seem right to me. I walked away from them , like your Dad always said if it sounds to good to be true, its probably fake.

okay, why dont you look up PayPal Security issue, and see how many hits there are on it, How many cases of it happening, and how it happens. They have never reimbursed me when someone never followed through, on eBay. But yes the easiest way is from a buyer screwing a seller over. But there are so many ways to get into the SSL encryption, and its not that hard if you have the right software, and know how. With PayPal, Your money is fully under there regulations, a bank account, is actually protected by Federal Banking Regulations. a bank account cant freeze your funds for basically no reason for months on end, But paypal can. And ever wondered how they make there money? by collected interest on frozen accounts. Read on it... I thought it was safe as could be too, but if you read into what paypal really is... its a waste, and risky. All it is, is a business making money, under there full regulation.

I have had PayPal go to bat for me a couple of times, when a seller didn't come through, and it worked out fine. Other than that I can't comment.

The pre-pay Visa or Mastercards do work pretty good though. They generally cost about $5 and you put as much cash "on them" as you intend to use. With most you can put more money on them later usually without another fee.

Yeah thats pretty much the only way I do it now adays. You can get em from your bank for free though sometimes. At My credit union I just bring in the exact amount I need to spend and I get a card back within seconds and its good to go, with no trails, or risks.
