How do you know if your Didymium glasses are working?

I just bought a pair of Fendall Didymium glasses. They are a light purple color and make yellow heats look like a dull orange. I am not sure if they are dark enough and if they are working like they should. My eyes still feel stress after forging. It may be because I have a tendency to watch the steel in the forge, but I am changing this so I only look at the hot steel and not the forge. Any help would be appreciated.

Search this forum for didymium, there's a couple of recent threads.

Short version, straight didymium glass filters out very specific radiation bands from heated glass and flux that arises from heating sodium and related elements. Without additlional filtering, UV and IR still get through, as well as lots of visible light. They won't provide protection from forge radiation.
