How do you like the JRE leather field strop?

Hey, I'm buying a custom that'll use a convex grind. I've seen these field strops but have never used them before because all my knives use a conventional grind. I've handles JRE leather good before and I know they are of really good quality, I just wanted to know if there were any better roll up strops out there?

And what's the difference between the green compound and black compound?

Black is coarser and the green is fine (usually 0.5 microns)

They look really nice and I have been wanting to get one myself, I think they would make the perfect travel/camping strop.

I have the JRE 4 sided "strop bat". It has gray, green chrome, pink no-scratch and smooth leather sides. I have been very pleased with it.

I love my JRE field strop.

Mine's loaded with black compound and works fantastically. I've got a carabiner that I strap to my pack and can either run a loop of paracord around a tree in the woods or, as it hangs in the workshop, through a shelf.

It coils up SMALL. I suggested to Dan and Spen that they make a shorter version for the weight conscious folks but, honestly, for the weight of the current model, the length is fantastic.

I even use it for my machetes. :)

Would it be too much to ask for a picture of them in a unzipped pocket of a backpack rolled up? Or rolled up next to a knife or something for size reference? It'd be really cool of you, I'm asking because I want to see what the fit would look like in a backpack I have. Also, does the compound rub off on the inside of your pack? Do you think a plastic baggy would solve this?

Absoutely! I've got soccer practice in a few minutes but I'll try and snap a few pics later tonight.

Sorry, it took me a bit longer than expected. My camera must have wandered off because it sure wasn't where I thought it was. :D

That's the Victorinox Pioneer peeking out from behind the rolled up strop.

Normally I have a hair scrunchy (shock cord loop) to hold it all together but the strop has been hanging in the shop for the past few days and the loop seems to have gone the way of the camera...
