How do you like your Esee's/RATs now that they'er convexed?

Well, I just started convexing my HEST after finding this sanding block in my garage. It has a foam pad, perfect for convezing a knife. I started with 100 grit and I really have that geometry going pretty good. I'll need to pick up some finer grits and a strop. I don't really plan on it, but it's not too late to back to the V-grind. So, How do you like your esee/rat convexed?

Same here. I had a convexed RC4 and didn't like it. I sold it and eventually bought a "stock" RC4.

Well I convexed (not full convex) the edge on my RC4, and I've gotta say.. IT'S GREAT! I kept the actual angle at the edge and knocked off the edge of the grind. It cuts through stuff so much easier!
Do it if you have the time. Just play with the factory edge then convex it and feel the difference!

I just knocked the shoulders off my 4 and started from there. I've never been much of a sharpener, but it it's alright so far. I need to get some compound for my strop. I might take it back to a v-grind if I don't like it later on.

I was thinking about doing this, I have some B*&%'s with convex edge and really like it. I just haven't been able to pull the trigger. I would be interested to see who else pipes up and how they feel about their decision to go convex.

While I haven't convexed an ESEE, I have done a couple of others. While I really like the edge, I found that in-the-field touchup and sharpening were more of a hassle than with a standard edge. As I happen to be the chief cook, bottle washer, and processor at deer camp I need an edge I can touch up on the fly, in pouring rain if needed, and can use a steel on if necessary. Like i said - its a great edge, but doesn't fit into my uses.

I convexed the edge of my user Izula and wouldn't even consider using one of my other Izulas without convexing them first. It's that big of a difference. I didn't do a pretty job but functionally it was worth the effort. Part of the reason is that the Izula has a relatively thick blade. For some of my thinner knives like a Spyderco Sage, the factory edge works a little better in combination with the blade thickness.

Yup - sandpaper can be used in the rain. While it takes up no room, and weighs nothing, I don't carry it.

Nothing personal - its just not for me

I agree with hoopster on this one. I convexed my Izula and in the process of it removed the entire coating off of the blade. I love doing woodworking/bushcraft tasks with a convex edge. It has a different feel to it. The best way to find out is to try it yourself!

I've convexed all of my ESEE blades and the one that I saw the most noticable difference was on my Izula. I thought it made a world of difference in how it cut and sliced. With all the others I don't think I don't think I noticed much of a difference between the two grinds. I think it really comes down to what each person likes and dislikes.

If I want convexed, I'll use my Fallknivens. I like to keep the Esee's factory edge and follow it with my stone.
