How do you like your Government model?

Just wanted to know how folks like these blades, looking for some first hand experience.

Thanks,
Tom

I used a SOG Government (original uncoated version) as my primary backpacking/camping knife for several years. It had good edge holding (especially considering the steel was 440A - probably due to a good heat treatment), a comfortable handle, steel pommel for pounding (you don't see this too often), one of the best non-kydex synthetic sheaths I've ever had, and a decent price. Best used for general cutting chores (it's relatively light, so chopping wood isn't a good idea). Overall a good general use knife.

I let a friend borrow the knife over 3 years ago....I haven't gotten it back since :p

I appreciate your input. I'm looking at the Government Agent model, for a few military friends and later one for myself. Trying to buy good quality tools and stretch the dollar.

Thanks,
Tom

Usually means a knife the friend wanted to keep! :D

One thing I really like about the Government is the balance. Not a "blade heavy" fixed blade.

I just got a used Government. I'm impressed. Mine came with the Nylon sheath which I really like. With the handle being heavy it should work well if you ever need to use it as a hammer. The handle is plenty long and easy to grip. Rather comfortable. Can't wait for a chance to try it out in the field :)

Hey Ron, what are the markings on the Government? Mine has the SOG logo on one side of the blade and something like Seite? Japan on the other.

That would be "Seki Japan." The city and country of origin.

Thanks Ron, I didn't have my knife with me that day and couldn't remember the city.

After fondling my Government for a few weeks, I've really grown to like it. The Nylon sheath is ambidextris and really well made. Rides were I like it. The But Cap being no more than an inch above the top of my belt.:) The edge is sharp and looks like it will hold up really well. I'll be going down to the kitchen in a few to cut up steak for dinner (With my Government of course:D).

Thanks Ron and SOG for such a great knife.:) Now to save up for a Desert Dagger :D

The Desert Dagger would do well as a steak knife, and just flip it over for carving.
Sounds like the start of an info-mercial...
