Sog Trident.

Been looking at these knives for quite some time. I'm sure lots of you guys have them? How do you find them? Good knives? Is the lockup good and solid? How do you find the combo edge for edc?

I have an Aegis and take it to work with me 5 days a week and really love the knife.
I really like the looks of the Trident, the variety and the color they come in as well. Thanks.

Out of the box I really liked my trident, it had a nice lockup and ao was pretty fast. It had the best clip I've seen on any knife so far and I liked the blade shape. One negative I found is that the the ao slows down a bit after a few months of constant use. It'd still work, but it would be slightly slower than a kershaw ao when before they were equal.

I can make the lock fail by putting a few kilos of pressure on the back of mine.

Not a bad knife disregarding that. Although i downright hate that mine came with a combo edge.

Didn't specify what blade type i wanted :foot:

has this topic been beat to death or did I post in the wrong area? I would have thought more guys would have responded to how they like or dislike their Tridents. :) Thanks though to the two that did. I have the Aegis and will watch the assisted snap and see if it deteriorates over time. I am not all that far from Lynwood, WA.

I wish SOG had used another name for the Trident folders, because they also made Trident Bowie knives and it creates confusion.

I got a trident as one of my first folders, I thought it was the best. I like the pocket clip on it a lot, very easy to conceal. The only thing I do not like about it is the handle, it feels very light and weak.

For that price range I'd prefer a cold steel recon 1. I have both of these, and just prefer the G-10 as a handle material on a folder to Zytel.

Overall it's a good knife, easy to sharpen, lock seems pretty solid, and again, i love the pocket clip.

I have the TF-2, the straight edge satin one. The lock is solid and the blade's grind is excellent for EDC.

hey thanks guys for the responses. nice pic btw great idea including the guns and lites! I just bought the desert camo except mine has the digi camo handle. I was actually surprised at how stiff the zytel handle was on the trident. I was expecting it to have a bit of flex in it when twisting it with hands. this was not the case. It's first job I put it to task was on a pineapple and it made short order of that. Great blade and love the look of the desert camo!
I also have the recon 1 in tanto but it's new and haven't used or carried it yet. It's heavier of course than the trident but solid! I just might end up trading it away it just doesn't appeal to me. Perhaps I should have got the clip point recon.

I used to own a Satin edge tanto Trident. From what I remember, it was very sharp out of the box, had great lockup, and was fun to play with. The reason I sold it off though was because I felt that the assisted opening mechanism was sluggish, I didn't like the lock vs. the BM Axis lock, it was kind of a pain to clip and unclip, although it rode extremely low, which is good, the handles felt cheap and plastic-y, and the seatbelt cutter was kind of useless to me. Not worth the price I paid for it, IMO.
