I heard that you use a belt sander or some thing, is this forum a good place to put this topic, and what do you use for making blades?

There's lots on knifemaking in the Bladesmith Forum.

Daniel,
I am moving your thread over to the shop talk forum. I agree with Tom, but at the same time I do not want to be squelching a young person's enthusiasm. Daniel, how about asking an adult to participate on the forums with you (under your guidance of course

Daniel:

This might be a good place for you to start:

http://www.knifeforums.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000032.html

Read over the material to see if this is something you might want to try.

As far as heat treating goes: You can also send your blade to someone so they can do it for you. Paul Bos is just one of the people who specialize in this kind of work.

There are also some really good books on knifemaking. Just ask, and I'm sure you'll find some folks here that would gladly recommmend good knifemaking books.

You can also ask if there are any knifemakers near you who would like to help you out.

It takes some time to learn how to make knives, but there are folks even younger than you who have done it and done it well!

Good luck!

Daniel, good to have you along. You will find Tom is one of the most helpfull people you will find regarding knives on the net.

A good start will be to go to a custom show and start talking with some of the makers.
You will most likely get an invitation to join someone in their shop. Email me I might know some makers in your area that would be inclined to spend some time with you.

There are also several hammerins where people get together and forge knives and exchange ideas.

Take a look at Murry's post (Custom Forum) regarding the live webcast from Johnny Stouts shop.

In short bear with us, in time you will find that knifemakers (and most collectors) in general are very generous with their time and knowledge.
