The title says it all. Also, what material do you need to make one? Thanks ahead.

Go here for a diagram of how to tie a hangman's noose.

As for the material, I think a lot of people use that nylon parachute cord. Hope this helps!

For about $50 you can have "The Ashley Book Of Knots" and it has a nice lanyard section. Material depends on how bad you want to hold on to your knife, and what your useage is.
ME? I would never have a lanyard I could not easyly break.
Be safe.

Lanyards are fairly easy to make. The Boy Scout shops sell the stuff as well as nearly any craft store. You can buy craft lacing by the spool or you can use nylon cord, leather lacing (a leather bootlace works well), nearly anything that you can braid.

I usually use what is called a square or four sided braid., it is easy and can be configured into about any type of lanyard.

My old Camillus utiilty knife has a small lanyard of OD green nylon parachute cord. Just a decoration really but it is hand to pull the knife from it's pouch.

Do you mean a "lanyard" or a "fob" ?
A lanyard, normally, attaches the device to your person....a fob is the short knotted thing to help extract the knife from your pocket.

I think "Ashley's", the so-called knot bible, sucks massively. Much prefer Des Pawson's "Handbook of Knots" for clarity and convenience (off the topic? hmmm)

BTW, I had a very attractive black leather lanyard on my black Military...for about 2 days until it proved to be so much of a pain in the ass that I removed it. My work involves working at heights and I figure if you can't hold onto yer tool

you shouldn't be up there. Lanyards - are they really necessary?
