How do YOU make you hand forged steel strikers?

I have long enjoyed my period reproduction steel striker and it has started many a warm fire. I'm trying to broaden my knowledge and skill set more these days and would like to make my own strikers and maybe a few for friends. I was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction. I can get together the parts to make a coal rough forge and then temper in the oven if that is what is needed but I'm wondering about how YOU do it and what your method involves. Thanks in advance for the help -Stay Safe

This might be best to double post this in the Knife Makers discussion section. They know all of this stuff. We have several ABS Master Certs on this board - so they know a LOT about steel and easy / expedient ways to make cool stuff.

I don't have the answer to the question, but it seems to me that it would depend upon what the striker's target material was. 1095HC at R54-57 works for materials such as ferrocerium and michmetal sparkers and it is the sparker material which is thrown as superheated sparks. With conventional flint, it is the struker material which is shaved to produce sparks. I was under the impression that traditional flint strikers were not tempered at all but were simply formed in a forge and then quenched.
