Pardon my ignorance :p
But I was wondering how you all pack your knives when you fly? Lockable Knife Rolls or bags? Blade Show is fasst approaching, and I will be carrying knives to and from the show on the plane...but I dont want them stolen (DUH).

What do you frequent flyer/knife nuts reccomend?

Thanks,
mo

Lockable pistol case inside my checked bag.

Better yet, Fedex (insured) any knives you buy at the show back home.

I usually wrap a rubber band around any folders lest they unfold in transit due to vibration or something. I'd hate to open my suitcase and find and find a nice big slash across the front of my suit jacket or something. I often put 'em inside of a shoe and then stuff a pair of socks in there too so that they don't rattle around.

Hey Mo, I got the idea from that movie "Pulp Fiction". I carry my knife up my arse, just like my great Grandfather's watch. :)

Quit worrying Mo and just mail them to Gus :D

More high end knives usually come with a zipper case of sheath, that is what I put them in before I zip them up with the rest of my checked baggage.

Seriously on your heavier fixed blades. Stick a cork on the end. In case your luggage gets abused, that cork can prevent a bent tip.

I have litterly seen makers "pull the cork off" of very high end knives when they arrive to set up at shows :D.

Bastid,

Better watch those references to corks. Mo is from Ark. and they do some funny things with corks. :D

The best way to get them to a show is to mail them fedex next day air. Then pick them up at the hotel. If you are a maker and they lose your luggage your stuck without any knives. If you mail them and you lose your luggage, you can sell a few knives and buy some clean clothes. Plus there is no insurance on your luggage, or any proof that you had the knives in there, which then might raise a few eyebrows.
