OK guys here is one that has me puzzled. I have always placed my 110/112's in the sheath tip up with the blade's spine towards my back on my right side. The last few 110's I have picked up has the knife tip down with the blade's spine towards the back if it was on the right side. In my mind, these were used by a left handed person. The leather sheaths were inprinted with the shape of the knives in this position and got me to thinking, which brings up this question.

How do you place your knives in their sheaths?

Thanks,
John

I have always carried mine tip up spine to the front. In my mind its the most practical way. That way when you pull it out its already in your hand in the position you will be using it. But that's just my thinking.

Just been a long time since I carried one but I still collect the 112 and have them Engraved but gave away or traded or sold most of my 110's as they just did not feel right in the hand after I got my first 112. The 110's I kept are for more sentimental reasons or they would be gone.* Tip down and Spine to the back is the way I used to carry a Buck many years a go.!*

Tip up, spine back. I carry most of my knives like that, and it's simply the easiest way for me to keep it in a way so that i won't have to flip it over a lot before using it.

I've got no intention of derailing with this, but i've shaped one of the standard 110 leather sheaths so that it's the shape of the knife, if someone borrows it they STILL try to put it in the wrong way.

I carry mine like this on the right side. --e-d-i-t-e-d-?--e-d-i-t-e-d------------------------------

Oops, Looks like I need to read ALL of the words:o tip up, blade spine to the back...
Most older used sheaths that I have come across seem to indicate this as the most common orientation as well...

I carry mine like this on the right side. Is this what you would call tip up spine front? I think of the handle when I think of the spine...

John, Sit, your way is the way to carry a folding knife ;) (I think)

Same as you. That makes for a smooth transition from sheath to hand.

I was confused as well when I voted tip up spine forward. I carry with the tip up and handle forward so I guess that would be spine to the rear

sitflyer that's how I carry mine on my right hand side. When I said spine forward I confused myself. I was thinking of the rocker bar (?) forward.

Well so far it seems that the most prefered method is tip up and spine to the back. My thought was when I get these older knives and the sheath indicated that the knife was carried tip down the owner must have used the handle drop method to open their knives. I tend to stay away from that since I have seen them fly across the room, but I know many guys who like to pintch the blade and drop the handle.

I used to use that method way way back, till I had a slip and a finger sliced open:eek:

I carry mine however it gets shoved it and snapped shut. If I give it any thought, I will put in in tip up, spine forward.

Like this... :)

Found a picture. Please don't focus on the stuff in the background, it's there due to MDD (messy desk disorder).

P.S.
The one thing that annoys me about the newer Buck sheaths is that they lose their colour after a little while.

I have always carried mine right side tip up, blade to back this allows me to pull from sheath and open one handed (right hand) only thing I do strange is keep the knife back one belt loop farther on my Carhartt work pants to allow behind the back reach with my left hand. While you are talking sheaths I find it really makes a difference if you can get the version with the strap sewn flat verses the one the strap is sewn on the top folded over and sewn on the bottom for me the loop sticks out to far, flops around and catches on items.
Bob.

My vote ended up wrong because I was thinking backspring as the spine. I go with the majority when I carry a knife in a sheath.

Tip up - spine forward on right hip. Just seems natural when you pull it as it's ready to go - pinch the blade open and you're set.
