Hello Folks!
Can anyone tell me how to post pictures on the forum? What equipment do I need and how much might it cost me?!!!
Thanks for any help!

PS. I love everyone's pictures!

First you just need to have something like a geocities account, or your ISP probably gives free webhosting for clients. You can't upload to bladeforums, so you have to store your pictures on the afforementioned account. Then you link to that picture in your text like this.
<XMP>

So
pict57.jpg
should give you:</XMP>

Ewww, you may want to blow the font up when you read that, IE made that tag text very very small.

Bob

Thanks Bobwill!
I'm terrible with computers, what is geocities and ISP? Also what softwear do I need,(scanner D-camera)?

geocities is just a free web hosting service. They host your site and pictures. If you want to take your own pictures and post them you have a few options.
You can get a digital camera (cough) expensive (cough), or you can get a cheapo scanner for around a hundred, not too bad, and a lot of camera shops I think are now offering to put your regular pictures onto CD now. When you're just getting started this might be your cheapest option, but the fees they charge for that will add up, and with a few rolls you just paid for that scanner, and a while later you just paid for that digital camera.
ISP(Internet Service Provider) is just the people you're getting your internet through. They usually give you the ability to upload a website that you made when you sign up for an account.

Thanks Bob!!
I'll buy a scanner. So do I just hook it up to my modem, scan a picture, make a new post and there's the picture on the screen? Hopefully it comes with instructions!!! Maybe msn could help?

You don't hook it up to the modem, you hook it up to the back of your computer.
What do you have PC or Mac? BTWI HATE MACS!!! But, that's a different forum, isn't it.

Either way, as long as its about two years old or newer I would get a USB scanner. They atleast have the potential to transfer data faster, therefore pausing less frequently during the scan, and therefore usually don't produce as much banding and moirie(sp) lines, ie more consistent color.
So, you have your scanner hooked up to your USB, parallel port, or SCSI card you now just put the picture in, bring up whatever your graphics program is, and depending upon the program you go through various steps to where you can save the picture to your harddrive, or any drive as long as you have enough space. Once it's on your harddrive you can view it, but unless your system is a web server, unlikely if you're following my instructions(not meant as a dig on you, just it's unlikely that you would have direct access to a webserver and not know it)

noone else on other computers can see it. Now you need to get it up on a website. This is where your ISP or geocities or photopoint someone like this comes in. You use some form of software, an FTP client, which may or may not be in a webpage or installed on your home computer you can put it on the webserver so others can see it. When you visit that site you see the address at the top of the page, you take that address and put that into that <XMP>
</XMP> tag that I showed you earlier. Now, everyone in the world with a graphical internet connection should be able to see your photographic masterpiece. Once you get everything together you can email me with any problems you have, but I would probably check with tech support at whoever is hosting your web account first, they'll know more about the specifics of uploading to their site.
Can anyone tell that I do computer tech support while studying for my bs in Computer Science?

I actually like troubleshooting some stuff like this so if you need any help once you're up and running email me.

SkagSig40,
I was just on MSN, I wasn't sure if they offered free webhosting to their members. After looking around the site, I can honestly say, I still don't know! They don't mention it, so I would assume they don't offer website hosting as a standard feature to their members. So, you're SOL there, you'll have to use a secondary hosting service. Photopoint seems to be popular.

Bob

:
Photopoint is easy to figure out. And if I can do it anyone can.
They also offer different tools like cropping and lightening or darkening your pic as well as several other things.
And best of all it's free.

sure thing,
<a href = "mailto:rwillia@annapolis.net">rwillia@annapolis.net</a>.
You can also get emails off of people's profiles, those little icons above people's messages the one that looks like a letter with a series of lines coming out to the left is to email that person.
The good news is, when you get that scanner it should have a nice pretty poster to show you how to hook the stupid thing up, plus USB devices are more or less idiot proof anyway. Once you get that scanner, we'll have you up and running real quick. In the mean time I don't think anyone would mind you posting links and pictures to other people's stuff for practice.

That stuff up top, with the angle brackets in the really small font. Type that exact code into the little text box (when you write the message), and it displays the picture that you put into the address. Play around, have fun.

I think I can do that. Where do you get the text for a certain pic? I can't read the ones you sent me, too small. Is the text box the main box you write your posts in? (See I'm a Moron) Also U asked me befor, I have a Dell computer.

You using IE???
If you are, click on view, then click on text size. You can set the size up to a larger size. If you're using Netscape you should be able to just hold down control and hit the ] key and that should blow up the font. The rest is kinda rambling don't read it yet, just do what I've said so far and worry about it later. You've been warned!
As far as getting the addresses of pictures, when you find a picture you like, put your pointer over it, and press the right button on your mouse. Then go to properties. A new window will pop up, you will see the location of the picture, the long thing that looks like a web address. You can select that text just like it was in a word processor. Select the text by putting your pointer at the very beginning of the address press and hold down the mouse button and the text will all get highlighted in blue. When that's done release the mouse button, and hold your mouse over the highlighted text. Now, click your right mouse button again. That brings up a little pop up menu, one of the options is "copy" left click on that. You can now close that properties window. You now have the address of that picture stored in your system. When you want to put a link you can just go up to Edit and Paste. All this is a mute point, just blow that text up on that page, and get that WWII khuk displayed.

Bob

Oh yeah, you can just copy and paste that tag text. Just highlight it, and go to edit, copy, then create a new message and go to edit and paste.
