Hey guys. My kershaw Blur's torsion bar seems to have lost its springiness. I am debating whether to send it to Kershaw, or just have them send me the torsion bar in the mail. I don't really feel confident in my abilties to take apart the knife and replace it. I just wanted to know if you guys have a play by play on how to disassemble this knife. Any help would be appreciated.

It's pretty easy as long as you pay attention while taking it apart. You can send it to Kershaw if you want but it's easy enough to do yourself as long as you have T6 and T8 bits (or a Kershaw t-tool, just ask for one when you order your torsion bar, all free of course).

It isn't too hard if you're at all mechanically inclined. The main trick is making surethe blade is open when taking it apart and the Loctite on the screw threads is soft enough to un-screw the screws without stripping them. I take pictures with my digital camera of the whole process, but haven't done a Blur. There are pictures in the Archived Kershaw sub-forum, but I couldn't find them with a quick search. I expect somebody will come along and post theirs.

Here's a pic of my Random Task that shows the torsion bar.

+1 to PG's post. If you played with Legos as a kid then you have enough mechanical experience. Be careful not to strip the heads, they're easy to strip and I've noticed all my Blurs have had the screws locktited a lot tighter than my other Kershaws so YMMV but stripping Blur screws is common so be careful.

Forgot about the Torx bits. Thanks ABA.

A thorough cleaning and lube might also perk up your Blur, based on posts in the Kershaw Archive.

Its not too bad, but it can be a little bit of a pain. On the side that houses the torsion bar there's a thin metal plate that covers it and its held in place by the screws and front 2 back spacers.

I've found its much easier to to reassemble the knife if I put the torsion bar plate it place and put a zip tie around the handle to securely hold. I also do this on the side with the liner lock and it helps because you dont have those parts (torsion bar, torsion bar plate, and liner lock) falling out when trying to line everything back up.

Thanks everybody. Kershaw is sending me the torsion bar in the mail. I took my knife apart today, and took the old one out. The bar was actually broken in half. I think I can figure it out now. Thanks again everyone
