Some questions regarding sharpening of curved blades in a thread got me wondering what tricks others use to keep their (inward) curved blades sharp.
Let's hear them.:)

Glue sandpaper to a wooden dowel and have a different dowel for each grit - (600 up to 2,000).

I use the corners of the sharpmaker and the spyderco 701 profile stones. The 701's have been discontinued, though Sal claimed that they were discontinued because the golden stone will do what those did.

I do nearly all my sharpening on waterstones or a silicon carbide benchstone. I ground the sharp corner on one long edge of the stones into a radius using a tile rubbing stone (Home Depot tile dept basically a cheap SIC combination stone in 60/80 grit). When I get to the recurve portion I just lower the handle (opposite action of elevating the handle to do the belly - usually doesn't require that much of a dip). Works great and I can use whatever stone I feel like. Also since I strop on newspaper wrapped around the same stone, I don't have to do anything different from my usual routine to tackle recurves - start to finish.

I use my belt grinder, the belts easily flex enough to accommodate every curve I've run into so far, including a couple of Karambits.

What is the "golden stone"? I have never heard of that and now very curious as it sounds like something I must have! :)

I rounded the top of my waterstones for recurves and convex sharpening, makes it very easy.

If I have some heavier sharpening to do I'll use my 1x42 belt sander and sharpening belts, but I've been using a Hewlett JewelStik "Stubby" oval diamond steel for maintaining the edge on my scythe blades. Does VERY nicely. I suggest it highly.

cool. I've never seen that but I have the diamond duckfoot. is it pretty fragile? come in medium or coarse?

The golden stone comes only in Fine. You're on the right track since you already have the, now discontinued, duckfoot. Maybe Sal could be convinced to make a medium grit.
