How do you sharpen a knife with a recurve blade like the Emerson Commander? You obviously can't use a flat stone..maybe rods?

You can use the corners of stones, ceramic rods, narrow stones, a 1X30-42 belt sander or even sandpaper wrapped around dowels of wood.

I use spyderco profiles, sharpmaker rods, DMT diafolds, lapping film or sandpaper on a surface with a curved edge, oval diamond rods, convex bevels for some and if all that fails me I have a belt sander. :D

In truth sharpening a recurve is not easy, following the curve the right way takes some time to learn.

Corners of stones, at least DMTs, don't have many diamonds, if any at all.
