on something like a dodo, you would do a normal stroke on the sharpmaker and the single contact point will follow the curve. do the same thing on a spyker and bump and don't you round off the transititon between the straight tip and the recurve?

so on the rods you do the recurve and stop at the transition point? then you do the wharrenclif?

For a soft, round transition like the Bump and SpyKer, it's probably not ideal to treat it as a tanto. A tanto has a sharp transition which is basically nothing more than the intersection of two curves. But on the Bump/Spyker, the transition is part of a more complex curve. You just have to pay attention and follow the curve of the blade when sharpening. As long as you remove steel equally at all points, you will retain the curvature of the transition.

I go with knife saber on this. Remember to press lightly when using the Sharpmaker anyway.

Basically, yes that is the case. Use the flats for the front and tip. The front of the Bump blade seems to get the most use for me so I've sharpened that part more often than the back recurve part.

I can get my Bumps absurdly sharp on the Sharpmaker. I'm sure a Spyker would too.

I use the rods out of a Warthog sharpener on my Bump. Not the whole Warthog just the rods and they work well.
