I have a good set of sharpening stones and they work fine for my smaller blades. However, with the approching arrival of my EU-17 magnum, I would appreciate some advice on a new sharpening system for larger blades. I am looking for something that the novice, myself, can use effectively to produce razor sharp and hard use edges. The system must be adaptable to different size blade lengths and must be priced in or about the $100US dollar range. I am not looking for a top of the line device but do not want junk either. I have been told the models from EdgePro are exccelent and they seem to be wll priced but would like you oppinions.

Thanks

look at the offer on the air bleeder strop on this forum. might be what you are looking for

Thanks for the information.

I think I will look at the EdgePros and the HandAmericans. Both seem to be excelent. Thanks again for the information.

A plain old leather strop on a piece of wood and charged with some honing compound put a shaving edge on my Magnum.

Peter, what number are you getting? I have #12.

Mine and one other I have heard of could not even cut paper. But dont worry, they sharpen up really easily. Others I have heard of were razor sharp. :D

I use the Busse strop, Have for three or four years, and a crock stick.

I remember times before that.

Then I take a little drink and the Horror fades away

I need to know how you managed to get one three or four years before the rest of us???? I placed my order for one and am eagerly waiting for it to arrive. Can't wait! :D

Well, I use the well known spyderco triangle. I only own Leaner M. Street but 3angle worked well on it, razorsharp in a minute. I also tried it on larger blades but not ones from Busse. Hell, it even managed to sharpen a huge khukri. Naturally I mean only the blades with typical grind... Hope it helps you somehow. But still - it is no good for refinishing blades if you don't have diamond sticks. I have devastated cutting edge in my Leaner Street recently and had to pass it to my mate PiterM for refinishing ;) Yes, I am heluva abusser :D

[sorry for the chaotic style, I have a terrible hangover...]

you can buy an old belt (mine was 4.00) from Goodwill and some compound, and use that for a strop. The edgepro is tops, plus you can then sharpen all of your knives of different grind types.

Cerb,

Jerry shipped me a Busse strop back when I was a dealer, after I sent back several
Factory new knives that I was not happy with how sharp they were.

that makes sense, I do recall you being a dealer mentioned a while back, I just never did the addition
