What method(s) and/or items do you use to sharpen your Machax? The curves have me perplexed at the moment for getting the "scary sharp" edge I like to have on my cutlery!

Thank you!

I use a set of paper wheels or the corners of my benchstones.

I have also heard of people taping sand paper to a Pringles tube, or similar.

Paper wheels or a worn out half-round file with sandpaper wrapped around it.

A belt sander would be about the fastest and easiest way to get it sharp. The Worksharp does a nice job on big, curvy blades. You can get a hair shaving edge in just a few minutes.

Work Sharp is the fastest, easiest way, without a doubt. I'm planning on getting one of the new three-sided diamond hones for my KME sharpener, so I can sharpen it in the field or when I don't have power.

Drill with sanding attachment, regular sandpaper (anywhere from 320-600 is ok), strop attachment thing for the drill and then regular strop with green compound. I've only sharpened my machax twice and hate doing it. Recurves are no fun...

I let Chuck Norris chew on it, then give it to Trade to put the mirror edge on it by stropping it on his beard.

yeah, this. perfect convexed edge. chopping goodness.

Thanks guys! I was trying to use a Pringles can and sandpaper, so I wasn't too far from the mark. I'll just have to get something more sturdy and get at it.

Thank you for all the input!

I use sandpaper on a rubber sanding block to sharpen the 4 (it's convexed). I start at 200 grit, then finish with 500 grit. Don't worry about "scary sharp", it's a chopper. The finer you make the edge, the less edge retention you will have.
