How do you sharpen your spyderedge?

I have the sharpmaker but it seems like a round sharpener would be better for that...Am I wrong? Wouldn't sharpening it like a normal blade wear down the ridges between the cutting edge?

Send it back to Spyderco.....only they can return the Spyder-edge to its former glory.....
Seriously, I can get a wicked edge on a PE knife with my Sharpmaker, but I can never seem to re-capture the factory edge that came on my new Spyderco's. I wish that I too could figure out the secret to sharpening those Spyder edge knives myself!:D

The sharpmaker tends to put the serrations back in order.... it takes a bit of work though.
And trust me, don't use the brown stones for that.

I would advise to use triangles freehand. Put white one onto flat non-slippery surface (for ex. thin rubber sheath) and use the upper edge to sharpen serration carefully on-by-one. Or put the knife into some clamp (or vise) in edge-up position and work holding the triangle in your hand like file.
No way do entire edge in one stroke – this will grind the serration tips first!

I've just been using the Sharpmaker the way it shows Sal doing it in the video; seems to work fine to me.

Sergiuz, do you think it might work to hold the knife against the installed triangles in the Sharpmaker base (to establish the proper angle) then just run each serration down the stone. What do you think?

Yes, sure!
Seems I have skipped the simplest way to obtain the same result.

What is the typical turnaround time when you send a knife back to Spyderco to be sharpened? Also, what is the cost?

About two to three weeks, depending on what they're doing.
Have a two week turnaround for a knife to be replaced and slightly longer for knives to be sharpened or repaired.
But then, I'm in Canada and knives need to clear customs.

Sergiuz,

I intend to try this technique the next time I need to sharpen a serrated blade. Thanks for the idea about individually sharpening each tooth.

Jeff.
