How Do You Store Your Blades?

I've amassed a decent collection of my Favorite Spyderco knives (among others), and am now at the point of where do I put all these babies. I hate the thought of leaving them all in the their boxes when not in use, as I tend to forget their in the safe, etc.. (and they don't see any use). Building a display case is out of the question (wife would pitch a fit). I have 12 Spydies total, and a few other nicer knives, so the collection isn't enormous.

Some suggestions I've heard (and I'm considering) are:

1- using a flat/slotted clear "plano" tackle box of some kind.
2- using a decent magnetic kitchen knife strip (have one already).

I'm open to other suggestions as well, but kinda like the idea of the magnetic strip. I use these a lot in my garage for tool organization. However, I've read (and experienced this to some degree) how these strips tend to magnatize metal parts. Easily reversable, but not ideal. Also, has anyone using these strips experience any scratching of the blade? Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Trihonda

I only own Dozier fixed blades right now. I keep them in their Kydex sheaths, in a dresser drawer along with two Cabelas silica moisture removers.

For folders or fixed blades with leather sheaths (it is generally not a good idea to store a knife in leather), I recommend any quality knife pouch. Many of them use liners that wick moisture away from the knives. They are also very gentle on knives.

The Cabelas moisture removers I mentioned above are highly recommended. They have a viewing window so you can see the silicia inside. When it turns from blue to pink, they cannot absorb any more moisture, so you just put them in the oven for a few hours to recharge them. Even in a drawer (which is obviously not airtight) they last months before needing recharging. In a tackle box or ammo crate, they would last a very long time.

With stainless and semi-stainless steel, I do not think these are needed, but they add a piece of mind and were pretty darn cheap.

It is a good idea to use some sort of protectant as well, such as a Tuf-Cloth. Again, for stainless this may be overkill, but it is very cheap piece of mind.

I have a couple of Bill's Custom Cases that I keep my folders in. My fixed blades ar in their sheaths in a drawer; except for my Tom Krein & Shadow III. Those 2 knives are sitting on my desk, next to my computer.

I buy those relitively cheap pistol cases and keep my collectable folders in there. I drizzle a little oil into the foam to help prevent any chance of rusting. I also keep those babies with a nice coating of miltech on the blades and use a tuf-cloth on all my knives. My fixed blades aren't too expensive so I keep them in thier sheaths that I've also lightly saturated with oil. The knives in my edc rotation sit in a humidor(that doesn't humidify) that I've fit foam into, in my dresser drawer. They are easy to get pick from that way.

I have these in my bedroom so that I can decide when I get up what I want to carry (The twine ones now have a third level that I have not photographed

This keeps them out in the open and nonmagnetic!

I don't know why, but this picture looks kinda creepy to me.. Sorta like a weird shrine to the blade. Not saying you're actually like this, but the image says (to me), there's a headless chicken in your freezer and pentagrams on your basement floor. :D

Hey, but thanks for participating... :)

i dont store any knives, theyre more or less scattered around my apartment, i just clean them sometimes thats it, theyre in good condition (sometimes my moras need a bit more work but theyre 1095 so its no surprise)

I keep them in a moving box. It's as good as a safe. Who on earth would look there. I have trouble finding them too.

Kris,
Somehow I get the impression that you are not married. :p

One handers, Bucks and my Okapi on the left, Opinels in a stack, then SAKs all lined up. Knife boxes, sheaths and fixed blades in the corner. The fixed blades are normally in sheaths, just brought some out to make them more obvious.

Folder collection in glass case to keep the dust off yet retain visibility,
FBs draped around the telly - high visibility, dust no problem,
EDCs scattered around various tables and pants...
Japanese cult kitchen knives in their boxes,
EDU kitchen knives handy in their wooden blocks / bamboo trays on the fridge.

Sock drawer got so full the sox fell out. I just throw them in some wood boxes in the corner. One is a small tool chest type with a lift out tray, the other a repro Winchester shotshell box.

And I let them bang around on each other. :D
