How do you store your knives?

I'm wondering about all the creative storage methods you guys use to store your knife collections, and most importantly, keep them safe and rust free?

I've been considering buying a large-ish Pelican case, as they're environmentally sealed, but I remember reading one horror story here about a guy who kept his collection in a Pelican case for an extended amount of time and came back to find the knives rusty due to moisture in the air trapped inside the case.

In my gun safe. Nothing can get to them there, not even DUST!!!!! I keep all my knives and guns, except my Glock, one of my benchmade 175's, and my spyderco chinook; because those are the tools/weapons that make up my CCW/EDC rig. but when they are on me, they too are in the safe...

A vintage, felt-lined machinists chest like this. Of course, if you're storing more than about 30 knives, you'll need more space.

I store my collection in a lighted bookshelf. Every time I walk by I touch one or two. I decide daily which will get to travel with me and basically enjoy them every second I am home and can. They were bought to look at and use. Some are "Art" knives and they stay in the shelf, or go to Church on Sunday. :-)

Security? I don't have any $10,000.00 blades to protect. Mine are all priceless to me. I wouldn't like to own them and not see them all. I love them.
My time on Earth is far to short for me to buy them and hide them away. I enjoy them so much. I smile like a 8 year old when I pick them up and muse over which will accompany me for the day. Don't you?
How long you plannin on livin? Those blades we own will be somebody elses in a blink of their lives. Enjoy them every second you can. They are beautiful aren't they? Going to the bookshelves, talk later! :-)

I ordered a United Cutlery Knife Roll from Knife Center. It was about $16. Holds 50+ small folding knives. Small folders make up the bulk of my collection. It should arrive next week. Right now I scatter all my knives (40+) on top of my dresser.

A chest, curio and roll are all good choices. If you choose a roll make sure to keep an eye on them for rust and don't store any celluloid handled knives with your bone and stag knives. Celluloid can release a gas thats harmful to your other knives,.
My .02 cents.

I made a 6 foot tall case, about 16" wide, out of common pine and fitted it with slide out trays.
