how do you store your knives?

my collection of folding knives has become an issue when it comes to storing them. I have a piece of clothing (not exactly clothing, I just couldn't find a better word.) that has 8 pockets I can put my folders in. and that is laying in a small wooden box.

but since I have more than 8 folders, the rest are just laying around in drawers and on shelfs.

do you have any recommendations for where I can store the rest of my folders neatly?

I have 2 knife rolls that hold 24 folders each that i got online. they were pretty cheap too.

I use Craftsman tool chests. They lock, don't trap in moisture, can be expanded / stacked as the collection grows, and make for easy organization.

Mine aren't quite like these, but you can see the potential:

then you must have a lot of knives? I think 3 drawers should be enough for me for a long time. now I really want to see if there are any small tool cabinets for sale where I live.

but back to the knife rolls, do you have any special to recommend? does the knives bumb into each other and potentially get scratched?

A few. ;)

The nice thing about the Craftsman boxes, they are available in a wide range of sizes; you can bet they have some with only three drawers.
I bought a bunch a few years ago that were on sale with free shipping. Free shipping is rare, but there's always some model or another that's on a big sale.

I also have some of the Sack-Up bags. Very soft cloth and the knives never come in contact with each other. They're available in different sizes too. Nice, but the storage price per-knife is rather high. And you still have to find a safe place to store all of the Sack-Up rolls.

I also have a large inexpensive roll, the type with rows and rows, and the knives are held in place by elastic strips. Not impressed with these so much. The one I have holds something like 60 knives, but they must all be very small knives and the knives aren't individually enclosed. Knives that are fat, odd-shaped, long, etc. come loose or bang against other knives. I only use it for cheap surplus knives.

Someone posted in a recent topic they were using the foam-filled plastic carry cases for loose (not in boxes) knives. Might be something that would suit you.

I throw all mine in a rubbermaid plastic bin. Mine are all users & i could care less about scratches. If small kids come over, i just put a 25 lb weight plate on it so they can't move or open it.

I just use those cheap vinyl knife cases that are like 5 bucks they are lined with a red felt type cloth and have these little elastic loops to slip your knives through also I have a large Rubbermaid tub lined with felt:cool:.

I need to get some "pick n pluck foam" or something similar. if they sell it around here. or maybe some other kind of foam that I can cut to fit the curves of the knives.
I'm just not sure if I should get a suitcase or a small tool cabinet.

+1 for the tool cabinet, I have a small cabinet that stores my folders, fixed, box's and all my sharpening tools, the only thing not in there is machetes and choppers.

All piled together in a drawer. The one I happen to be using is stored in my pocket or on my dresser.

I used to store them in my sock drawer :D Then I had some shoe boxes.....
Now I have a wooden jewelry box that my wife made. It's about 12" high 18" long and 10" deep. It's got two large drawers and three small. At the moment I can almost fit my entire collection of small/medium fixed blades and folders. The Machetes and axes I keep in my tool box in my truck. I have a few other odds and ends laying around somewhere too.
If I were to actually "collect" knives I'd probably spring for a stainless snap-on tool box. But as it is now my accumulation is shrinking at an alarming rate as I start to be more realistic about that I actually use and need.
