A search for this didn't really turn up the answers I was looking for, but there were many responses so forgive me if this has been asked already...

How do you guys store your water stones?

I know they are porous and take time to absorb water, so a lot of people have recommended storing them in water so they are ready to go as soon as you want to use them, which is what I've been doing. I read recently, however that some stones have something in their composition that can degrade over time if store in water all the time which would negatively impact their ability to sharpen and polish. Anyone have feedback on this?

Thanks,

Yes, some stones will brake down if left in water.

Right now I just store them in a plastic tub but have been kicking around the idea of using a pelican case. Little more expensive than a plastic tub but if they fall down the side of a mountain they'll be okay :)

I stuff mine into the bottom drawer of my knife gear cabinet. The water stones get a piece of cloth between them, but the ceramics and silicon carbide are just stacked together. My EdgePro stones are jumbled into the roll-up carrier that came with the Apex, as are my DMT stones in theirs.

They are stones. Not fish. :)
