Howdy. I've searched for a little while now and cannot find any real answer to my query. How do I tell if my gator, which I bought on ebay, is an older one, or a new one. What type of steel was used in the older one? I know the new ones are 420hc, which in my opinion is crap for a knife.

I think, its an older one. Reason is, the pictures of a new one have GERBER plastered in big letters where mine has the Gerber emblem. I had one of these when I was younger, and traded it off. I got the hair a while back and found one on ebay and bought it. I only gave around 20 shipped.

Thanks for the help, and sorry if this has been covered numerous times before and I cant find it.

Here is a picture of the knife in question.

It's an older model, exactly how old is difficult to tell. Gerber's current logo doesn't look like the one on your knife. I'm not sure what steel it is, Gerber is notorious for not disclosing the kind of steel they use in some of their models.
