how do you use fuzz sticks?

I made fuzz sticks with a green river knife and a helle blade I wrapped the tang I duct tape. the duct tape worked pretty well for a handle. not great but it worked. the green river knife is a joy to use.
I showed my wife how lighting the fuzzy side of the stick is easier than trying to light the whole stick. I put out the fire and told here I would next put the fuzz sticks in the kindling of the fire. how do you use them? do you place them in the fire as kindling and then light the fire?

I've used them in a few ways, not sure technically if I'm doing it right though. I've put tinder under/around them and lit the tinder and I've placed them over the tinder in a small tee-pee formation.

the way I use them is like kindling I create a small teepee of fuzz sticks..(fuzze side facing in) around my tinder, And leave an openig in the front for witch to put my flame, or a secondary ignited tinder bundle through.,,I try to make sure the fuzz is close enough down so that the flame from the tinder will be able to catch the kindling.

Although I'm sure they work really well, I've never used fuzz sticks.

I'm going to have to try them one of these days -until then I'll stick with a pete. (that was for you, GS )

I make a tipi out of them. I also carve really small curls, which I ignite with a firesteel. No need to hunt for tinder that way.

I just split the wood until I have lots of little teeny sticks.... Match Stick Sized....

I used to do that, fuzz sticks work so much better because you don't feel like your trying to build a house of cards. I do still have to use a cotton ball to get things from a spark to fuzz stick though. I guess my fuzz stick-fu just isn't that strong yet...
