I just got an Ontario RAT5. I bought it to replace my 20 year old Ontario Pilot survival knife. Wow, this RAT5 is a beauty. This is the most money I've ever spent on a knife. I'm really impressed how nice this knife is. I can't stop touching it.
My ?. What is the long narrow strap(marked Ontario/RAT-5 U.S.A.) with the snap on the end, on the back of the sheath used for? And is the pouch with the buckle on front made to hold a specific item like a certain sharpening stone or is it just an accessories pouch?

What is the long narrow strap

its sort of a general usage strap to attach the sheath to a backpack or other equipment; perhaps someone smarter than me will narrow it down and give it a name.

pouch with the buckle on front

thats not made to hold a specific item, but is generally used for a stone; you could stick just about anything in there that floats you boat.

Since you find the RAT-5 to be appealing, you should consider also the -3 and -7. You need one of each.

Hey Guys....

Yes it is a MOLLE strap,, however the snap on it won't hold the strap in place is any pressure applied to the strap..The snap is easily opened in this manner..

In my opinion, RAT would be Very smart if they put a "Pull the Dot" snap on their sheaths..

I've found that most if not all of these types of MOLLE ready sheaths lack in that area...

It would be smart if you were to use it like this to either tape or zip tie the strap down in some way...

I can't find it right now, but there was a thread of what someone put in the pouch--he managed a whole survival kit. It was remarkable. Someone here has the link...I'm sure of it.
