How do you use your 3.5" knife?

Hogs,

I have a bunch of Busses, ranging in size from a Boney Active Duty (3.5") to the NMFSH (9.5"). My favorite small Busse is the Boss Street -- its 4" blade is long enough for most everyday tasks, including cutting up an apple or orange. I love the feel of the BAD in-hand but reach for the Boss Street more.

The reason I ask about 3.5" knives is that I wonder how you use them. I know they're great hunting knives (skinning, cleaning game) but do you think 3.5" is a good EDC length -- compact but practical? I'm going to order a couple of Anniversary Mean Streets anyway ;) but I want to feel less guilty about it :D

Thanks!
John

Well I have a Magnum Bear Cub which has a 3" blade and I use it for almost everything. The Anni Mean Street is the perfect EDC, in my opinion. Once you receive the knife and actually feel it in your hand, the guilt will just mmmeeellltt away =) I'm buying a couple of the Limited Editions. I LOVE satin ;)

I really love the smaller blades for EDC. I use mine for everything, my AD is my little helper when remodeling. I use it for cutting pipe to drywall.

I don't edc fixed blades yet, but for my 3.5 folders, I use them when I don't need to worry about freaking people out. When I'm at work, my boss has 2 rules for me carrying knives: don't cut yourself. And don't freak people out. So pretty much when I'm out and about with my friends and sometimes to college

Pokey, Can I have you place my order when you do your's? ;)
I use Pork Shanks for ALL small stuff and then I throw it and it sticks .. :)

Anything from opening mail, cutting boxes, cutting hay bales open, to turning screws. I have found I can be pretty rough on smaller blades but thanks to Infi they just keep coming back for more.

I've done deer with my BAD. It worked well, but a 3.5" blade works you much harder than a 4-4.5" blade which is my preference. On hogs a 5-5.5" works best IMO due to the thicker hide. More blade per slice means less work on skinning, but a longer blade tends to get into things you do NOT want to cut inside the ribcage.

If the AMS was 4" I'd buy three of em just in case I sprouted a new arm. But as it is, it cannot replace my BAD so I have to pass on it... and I am so bummed about that. :( I love the looks and design.

Completely different grip than the BAD which I believe will lend itself nicely to a skinning/processing knife. I am sure gonna give it a go next season.

I carried a Heavy Duty (Thicker AD) as an EDC for years. I still carry it when I hike or camp. I've used it for everything from food prep to making feather/fuzz sticks. It's one of my favorite knives. Because it's a Busse and made the way it is, I've used it for things I probably shouldn't have as well. For me, it's a great sized blade.
Here are some of mine. You can see, I'm a fan. :)
