How do you use your Spyders?

What is a typical day of tasks you use your km knives for, and what things do you look for in your knives?

Mine typically cut open box's, strip insulation from wire and cable, sharpen pencils, and occasionally food prep.

Any knife I use will most likely have two things, a finger choil and a thumb ramp. Carbon steel is preferred but not a necessity.

I use my folders for opening and disassembly of cardboard boxes, opening mail sometimes, light/on the go food prep (veggies and fruits), light chores around the house that require cutting. Since I got my GB1, I have been using that one in the yard some, particularly light yard maintenance/garden prep but nothing too daunting.

I found that if I have to cut wood or harder materials I use an axe or a large fixed blade.

I pay little attention to choils, ramps and steel. I do really like G10 though. Basically, If I like the overall design, I will adjust to make it work for me.

EDIT: I also use my folders as worry stones and boredom breakers. Sometimes I don't even realize I do it, but my wife is quick to make me take notice that I'm annoying her with that sort of activity.

My use is very similar to tdhurl1103's. I use my knives for just about anything that needs cutting. There are times when I'll still use razor knife, Exacto blade, & other cutting tools but if it's a quick task and I can use the knife in my pocket then I go with that.

I also have a wide range of sizes and designs. I have several with choils & thumb ramps but it's not a necessity for me. I'm also not real picky about scale materials or blade steel. I have G10, FRN, & CF in a variety of different steels. I like having a variety of different knives and enjoy trying out new designs. There are still a few Spydies that I'd like to try but for now I'm pretty content using what I have.

Haha!! Me too!!! :D My GF is pretty good about it but there have been times when she gets tired of hearing the repeated sounds of my knives opening and closing.

LOL! This is great! Yup, my wife just looks in my direction and says, "Really?!"

When I'm feeling a bit peckish, I fire back, "Yes, really." HaHa

Sharpening pencils, opening packages, cutting food and loose strings...if it needs cutting, I know my Spydies will do the job.

My salt knives are beasts of burden. They sit in saltwater every day and are used to cut bait, gill cut large fish, cut through belly and ribs when gutting fish, cut line, etc. My Pacific Salt gets sharpened several times a week and has been doing this type of work for several years straight. Aside from a bit of wear on the teeth from sharpening and some scars on the handle from prying open the mouths of toothy fish, it is none the worse for wear.

Outside of the water though, the rest of my "EDC" knives live a life of luxury. A hard days work is opening a box or two or trimming some line when rigging my fishing rods and maybe opening a bag of coffee or food. Interestingly enough, I am even more OCD about the edges on my edc knives than I am on my fishing knives. :p

Opening the mail, cutting open feed bags/ fertilizer bags/ bird food big bags, cutting tree branches away from roofs...

My most used knife is my first FRN FFG endura 4. it gets used on a daily in the kitchen. I sharpen it using only the diamond hones and it cuts trough tomato skin like a chainsaw :D 3-4 passes on the rods are all it needs to be maintained.

other then that, ya cutting up boxes for recycling and packages. My most carried Knife is a G10 MAnbug. The more I use it the more awesome I feel it is!

opening boxes of course! with none other then other spyderco's in them!! but in general i use my gayle bradley 1) for yardwork and cutting around my house,i also use my strech in the same manner and keep a PM2 on my desk to open mail, but all of these knife's are always sharp!because when i get board watching TV. at night i'll hit the sharpmaker and strop!it never fails.;)
