allright ive been really looking at getting a jyd one or two, but im still wondering about this opening mechanism on it. i know its been said that its not assisted but ive also heard its fast. im wondering more about how it works and if it requires a flip of the wrist or if its just that cool in how it works. any info on this? i would just check one out myself but i live in city in northern illinois and aside from the occasional gun show there is absolutely no good knife stores that ive seen. and they are expensive if they do have them so i will have to order it online.

The JYD flipper is super smooth. When you apply about as much pressure as you would opening an AO knife it just pops open. With a little practice it opens just as fast and the lock up is just as firm as an AO knife, all without rolling the wrist. If you add a little inertia or a flick of the wrist it opens really fast and hard. If you haven't seen/handled one keep in mind that the JYD II is a big knife. Good luck in making your decision.

The JYD II opens easier due to the larger/heavier blade. It is a very sturdy knife, check out the specs on it. One of many excellent Kershaw knives for the price IMHO.

I own one and love it. It is my EDC replacing a CRKT M16 which is also a good knife.

No decision to make. Gotta have both !!!!

Stopped by the local knifemans store this week and asked if he could get me a JYD. He says they are there in the counter. (Too many knives to see just one) Priced at $39 and he tells he can give me a good deal. Gotta love this guy. Beats the internet and you can fondle all you want. Mmmmm! And in passing he showed me two 1960's Morans he has for sale. Good to have in town.

As for how it works: with most flippers the pressure you put on with your finger is held to a certain point by the detent keeping the blade closed. Then once the level is reached that the detent is overcome and the blade can move freely, the stored energy is released and propels the blade open. As was mentioned, it works well on the JYD II because it is larger blade with more mass behind it once it gets moving. I was very pleased with the operation of the JYD II when I had a chance to carry one. The Groove is another excellent Kershaw flipper, very fast with a bit of practice.

i got my jyd a couple weeks ago and i love it. for the first couple days i couldnt get it to open all the way without wrist movement, but once you work it in its absolutely great. i also found that if you put your finger on the round part of the frame above the pivot and off the flipper, and push down until your finger "slips" down across the flipper. itll basically punch the flipper and youll get much more force behind the flip with less energy put into it. (if you dont get what im saying, i could work up a little visual aid) it works great for when youre working in the pivot when you first get the knife, and gives you a bit stronger "snap" even after the pivot's worked in.

good luck with your decision, id highly recommend it. personally the jydII is next on my "buy" list because of my experience with the jyd.

I have both JYD's you wont be disappointed with either one and as said, they can be "flipped" almost as fast as an A/O once you get the hang of it. Short learning curve.

The JYD2 will almost flip itself, but is still extremely safe in your pocket.

I'll second what jujigatame said about the groove. It's not talked about much, but it is an excellent flipper as well and has been finding it's way into my EDC quite often.

Servertecher,
