How does Acuto+ steel compare to other steels?

Is it similar to AUS 8? or?

Thanks.

Based on the composition:

It looks to be similar the the 9Cr13MoVCo that Benchmade was using on its Pika II, except this one does not have the cobalt. I did side-by-side manila rope cutting tests with a Mini-Pika II. I found that their alloy had a bit better edge retention than AUS8 or 813CrMoV, though not as good as full-on 440C.

I would expect the Acuto+ with its similar carbon loading to perform about the same as the alloy Benchmade was using.

That's very helpful; thank you. :)

I like it. I have a CRKT Ken Onion Ripple and have been quite pleased with the edge retention.

That's why I posted my question, as I'm plenty happy with my Ripples. I just wondered where the Acuto+ steel stood compared with other steels. I have both the Ripple and the Ripple 2, and am pleased, as you are, with the edge retention. Also, very easy to sharpen.

I remember another thread where Acuto+ was first mentioned, it was said to be different forom Acuto440, but they are pretty much identical, bunch of other steels have much bigger variance in their specs. Makes me wonder, are they same or not.
Acuto440 vs Acuto+ steel composition comparison.

They sure look similar to me. While they're basically the same, the Acuto+ name sounds better...

Acuto440 invites comparisons with regular 440 steel. Personally, I like the Acuto+ name better. Acuto sounds like acute. The word agudo (Portuguese) means acute or sharp.

In Spanish and Romance language speaking countries, a name for the steel that sounds like agudo might be a selling point.

You are very great.
