How does factory pricing compare to dealer?

I'm interested in ordering my first Randall. I have a baby on the way ~October and thought it would be fun to order a knife when he/she is born. I don't mind waiting for it . . but 4 1/2 years is a bit long. My understanding is that if you order from a dealer, the wait is shorter.

Question: do the dealers charge more than the factory prices listed in the Randall catalog?

This may sound like a dumb question, but I know that it's much cheaper to buy a Spyderco from an online dealer than directly from Spyderco, for example. Knife companies usually encourage buyers to go through dealers in order to support a healthy dealer network.

Also I'd appreciate if anyone could give me a few general buying tips.

So far I'm interested in the Model 25 with the leather/stag handle.

Thanks!

Speaking of true 'new' Randall knives, those coming to you directly from the Randall shop via their authorized dealer network...it depends on the dealer. Some dealers charge at or near catalog prices, some a little more, and some even higher, depending on the dealer...

Some dealer waits are short, six months or less; some dealer waits are close to two years, depending on the dealer...some Randall authorized dealers are well known, while others are seldom spoken of...

Asking a guy which dealer has both the best prices and shortest wait time, however, can be likened asking a fellow where his favorite fishing hole is, and directions on how to get there...lol

Like anything else, building a long term business relationship (with your authorized Randall dealer of choice) can also prove to be beneficial...

Hope that helps,

*disclaimer: I am not an authorized Randall dealer, I just like the knives...:D
