I'm really curious how tough M4 can be one a small thin outdoor woods blade at 64hrc compared to 52100 and A2?

Any input?

I think that both steels are significantly tougher than M4 with A2 being the toughest of the three.

Is it drastic? I see those blades sports blades rocking M4 like champs.

I'm not certain. However, I do know that certain knife makers have done some really intricate heat treating to 52100 to refine grain structure to an extremely fine level, thus enhancing the attributes of the knife.

There are too many variables. This is like asking "which engine is better, V8 or V10?".

This is a custom, same design. Just trying to choose right the engine

I want high wear resistance.

Ive used a2 and 52100

I want to know how m4 compares in toughness.

It really depends a lot on heat treat. It is probably best to ask the maker the pro's and con's of the steel they offer.

This^^^

But what about grind/HT/geometry?

If this is all being done to the optimal level for what you will be doing with this knife, then M4 will be more than "tough enough"

If we where talking general "hard use" on X production knife, but you can pick the blade steel, I would go with it in the order of what I quoted....
