How does Mictotech Measure the length of their blades?

How the hell does this work? I've got a MT Socom Elite. By my measure, the blade is 95mm long (about 3.75 inches) if I measure the actual cutting part, which is by definition "the flat cutting part of an implement, as a knife" according to webster. I think that MT says the spec on the knife blade is 4.05 inches (about 102mm). Onestopknifeshop says the blade is 4 inches. I've seen other places say the knife is 4.25 inches. This is very aggrevating

The only way that I can even think the blade is 4.25 inches is if I measure from the pivot! And by MT measure my knife is .05 inches ILLEGAL in my area! What the hell? I'm dumbfounded!

BTW, the thing is rather vague and there is no definitive way. If you get busted for the knife and the court doesn't like you, they'll go with any blade sticking out from the handle, whether it is edged or not. If they don't have anything against you, they might give you the benefit of the doubt and measure the cutting edge portion... or so I've heard.

Normally, it is the portion that is effective as a stabbing weapon, which means all the blade sticking out from the handle, not just the cutting edge portion.

Ok, now I'm really confused. Microtech just updated their website. The specs on the Socom Elite list it as Blade Length: 4.05"
Overall Length: 9.11" open; 5.10" closed. Have any of you noticed that 9.11 minus 5.1 equals 4.01? How does 4.01 end up being 4.05? Where did the other .04 inches come from?

Still trying to figure it out.
Anthony
