So how do you use a Hobo slippie for eating?

Do you first cut everything up on your plate, then fold the knife away and use the fork? Or does one use two Hobo knives, one in each hand; a knife and fork?

Also, why do Hobo knives have both the blade and the fork on the same side? Wouldn't it be more practical to have them on the opposite side, so one can have each tool opened and use accordingly? I wouldn't imagine a lot of engineering should go into a Hobo knife, so why couldn't they get this simple thing right?

Most Hobo knives come apart. Then you can have a knife in one hand, and a fork in the other.

Another question might be why would one use a Hobo for eating?
Sorry, just never been a fan of that pattern. :barf:

Nifrand,

I feel like an idiot now. :)

mnblade,

I realize the Hobo pattern isn't anything sleek or stylish. But it comes with a fork, along with a blade, and sometimes a spoon. It's because people it with them; so if anyone is going to be eating with a pocket knife, I would imagine the Hobo would be more suited than any other style.

mnblade brought up a good question....I have used my Case Hobo some for eating but it has been under "special" circumstances.
Cookouts (bar-b-q's) where all that can be found are those crappy Plastic utensils and also a few "large" get togethers where all the silverware was gone by the time the cook(ME) got around to sitting down to eat.
I have to say that the Hobo is nowhere near my favorite pattern but it kind of has "gadget factor". I guess I also like the "what the heck is that" response when I use it.
