I'm interested in one of the SB Enduras coming in a few months. I was wondering how well Super Blue stacks up against ZDP-189 :)?
I've yet to try either steel so I figure either a SB or ZDP Endura would be a good jump into the more exotic steel market.

As far as steels I've tried in Spydies so far: ATS-55, VG-10, S30V, S35VN, and CTS-XHP

The first thing I have observed is that I can easily touch up my Caly 3.5 SB on the medium brown stones on the Sharpmaker. For my Stretch ZDP-189, it takes the diamond rods to have the same effect.

I can't comment on Super blue but I just took my Caly 3.5 ZDP to my sharpmakers fine stones and it worked great. Took longer than it would with something like s30v or 154cm but it worked fine.

I think I'm actually just going to purchase a Caly 3 SB sprint

Super blue will take a finer edge more quickly, but won't hold it nearly as long as zdp. Basically the advantage of super blue is that is takes an absolutely screaming edge, there's also the whole patina thing if you're into that kind of thing (which you better be if you're getting into super blue...that stuff will patina if you look at it wrong).

I haven't really had any experience with patinas
So I'm eagerly awaiting the outcome
I may just purchase a tuff cloth if I don't enjoy it

develop an interest in traditional slip-joints with either 1095 or case cv blades and they'll teach you what patina and rusting is all about. my stainless steel blades can sleep easy in my drawers but my rusty... er.. trusty slip joints are on the top of the side table in plain sight. a good wipe with dry cloth after use and a light film of oil will keep them "movie-shiny."
