How does the bk2 do chopping?

I know this knife is pretty short but it has a .25" stock and it's heavier than the bk7, so it's makes me think it would chop better than a bk7. I was thinking about getting a 13 inch axe to stick in the pack but the bk2 popped into my head. It's more useful than an axe obviously and it'll pack better. I also thought I could work up a rig on the bk2's kydex. Put a pocket with a stone and flint and such.

Has anybody used a bk2 to chop? Or used it to make a shelter? I just read a thread in the esee forum. Somebody used a rc5 to chop an aspen down maybe 8" in diameter in about 15-20. That sounds okay to me. Do you think that is possible with the bk2?

I have personally used the bk2 to chop and the i own the bk7. The bk2 is an amazing chopper, when i used it i was using it as a driver while hitting the back of the blade with a log (as a hammer) It was able to cut straight through a 2.5'' wet tree arm within about 5 whacks of the log. I have not used my bk7 in this fashion yet but i have used it as a swinging chopper and it is light and thin enough where it can be swung very fast and since it is thinner then the bk7 it just sinks into the wood. Either is a great knife in my opinion.

The BK-2's chopping mass is what makes it a favorite of mine. It's not an axe but it does a good job for a sheath knife. I have an RC-5 and the Campanion will do anything the 5 will do except for tip penetration. The RC-5 has much more of a spear point. In a chopping contest with a Ontario RAT 7 the Becker would definitely win.
A small folding saw would have dropped that Aspen in about 2 minutes, something to consider as well
A single mag pouch mounted to the BK-2 sheath would probably hold the items you mentioned.

I got in om a Pass around last year, when I got the pass around BK-2 I had a custom one finished by me and a stock used Camillus BK-2. The Pass around knife was a Ka Bar so it was fun to use them. Here are a couple pictures just quickly taken while I had been playing. If I remember correctly for a short blade I was happy with the BK-2 as a chopper. Doug

EDCGUY,

If you choke your grip away from the blade toward the end of the handle and just use a couple fingers wrapped around the back knob, it should theoretically make your blade act like a 9 inch blade....forgot the name of the technique...but try it.

Moose Drool! I haven't seen that beer since '98 when I visited my father in Montana. Very nice photo!!

how secure is your grip in that holding fashion, also will that be possible with the new models that have the extended pommel

Plenty secure! I have the BK7 with and extended pommel and the grip is not affected at all. :D

Hey Doug and all....

Thanks for posting the pix....I LOVE to see my babies being USED.....A baton will get you thru the tree quicker but is not somehow as satisfying to me ......

All Best....
