How does the black coating hold up on a Griptilian?

And now I realize that it's fancy paint that costs an extra ten dollars.

I'll be going with the plain blade.

Black coated blade show scuffs and scratches much easier, but in the case of tool steels like M2, M4 and 1095 for that matter, some would add D2, protection is necessary. Otherwise, a PE satin blade would be my choice.
