How does the BM42 rate as a Balisong knife?

I know about the steel and Ti handles, but from the point of view as a pure Bali how good is it? Would it be a good choice for a Bali? I like the look of the anodised model and... well don't know much about them. Is is a good Bali for the technical swinging aspect? How well balenced is it? Do the Ti handles provide a benifit or a hindrence? I don't care a jot about edge holding as to me a Bali is not a working knife. Not that they are not working knives, just to me they are a MA tool.

Thanks!

Do you mean balisong as in the aspect of manipulation? I think bali differs from any other knife on this only ...

I have no BM42, so can't say .. why not sending me one so I can say?

Howdy!

I'm VERY pleased with mine, of all the bali's i've swinged i like the feel of the ti handles the best.
I'm quicker/faster, smoother with my 42's then with any other bali.

To me, it's the best out there! (i haven't had a chance to try Mr. Ralph's one, yet...)

I've always had this thing for heavy brass handles. After buying a couple of 42's, I think TI is the perfect metal for a "user" bali's handles. Ariels are, for me at least, much better with the light 42.

IMHO, it's among the best ever made. It's in the same league as the famous BM45. It really handles well.

I like cheapies myself. :P I know it sounds stupid, but for me a cheapie is the right weight and size. I love my Jag, but for lightning fast minipulations nothng beats a cheapie. I remember seeing a jag that looked a lot like the cheapies I use, and I'm thinking about getting it when i get the cash.

In my opinion its the best balisong I've had the privelage to use.

The BM42 is undeniably great, but if its your first then I'd think you may be better off getting a Jaguar. Personally I find it good to practice with a heavier knife, then when I try the same trick with the '42 it seems to much easier and faster.

Plus you will drop it of course.

I think the anodizing does indeed wear off eventually, it's quite amazing how long you can spend "playing" with one of these knives. Personally I opted for the plain handled variety.

Oh and I wouldn't recommend getting caught outside of your house with it... in fact I wouldn't recommend getting caught inside your house with it either - but I'm sure you knew that.

I would like to see the same exact model as the 42 in stainless steel. I like the Ti handles, but I REALLY like the feel of my 45.
I think that a combo of the 42's thinner handle profile, and the weight of steel, would offer a very nice combo.

I Do really like the feel of my 42. and it is a staple on my side

It still flips just as sweet as when I got it.

Ditto that. I think it would be excellent.

poor blade_420... it must hurt having any knife stapled to your side. But maybe that's a good excuse to buy another one, since undoing the staples might be more painful.

Hello

Considering that I do not have a st of custom High Hollows that I care to use everyday, I depend solely on my BM42 set. I used to handle a set of POS knives because basically they can be thrashed and thrown away for six bucks a pop. Those days are long gone.

As for blade edge, I feel that the Balisong is carried for a specific purpose. With the edge that I have placed on mine I feel that they will fulfill their duties masterfully.

I'M STILL THINKING ABOUT THAT THERMO OXIDATION THOUGH!

Thank you all for taking the time and not flaming me! I do appeciate it a lot.

GuyInBlack, you can be sure I am aware of the law, and will NOT break the law and will NOT be buying a Balisong

Don't want to get into trouble now do I?

Just like the fact I don't own an LCC D/A

Have a good one!

Yes, I was aware of the fact that you don't own a LCC D/A.

I've considered not owning one myself as it goes....

No hang on... that's not right. ;o)

Anyway I hope you have enormous fun should you continue with this "thought experiment", keep us posted, and don't forget to tape up the blade.

When the situation becomes so terrible that nearly every knife is illegal to own, it makes no difference anymore, does it?

Ignore the absurd and pay attention to the important things. Like being good to your neighbors and the rest will take care of itself.

I've had my bm42 for about a week, and the only time I put it down is when I'm sleeping

I like em, enough that I picked up a second one, traded for it. So I can work both left and right hand at the same time, much fun of course!
My complaint lies in the handle to blade length, my favourite openings are used with the latch and the lanky handles seem to hinder smooth operating, normal openings work fine and are very fast as well.
