I was cutting wood today and got some dust in my eye....I was just wondering why dust and such doesnt embed in the eye and after years make it look like we are all looking thru a dirty windshield. So if anyones knows , id like to hear it. I understand a blow to the such as flying metal and such can embed...but the eye is soft ...i wonder why things dont stick to it. thanks for any replys.

Tears (and blinking)...The body's cleaning fluid and lubricant for the eyeball.

If you have, for example, sun glasses, the lenses are made of plastic or glass and each scratch is permanent. Eventually, they do get cloudy and blurry. You can try repolishing, but that can be technically difficult or cost prohibitive.

The eye, on the other hand, is a living thing. Just as a minor scratch or cut on your skin heals, minor damage to your eye heals too. And just as the outter layer of your skin is constantly falling off and being replaced, so is the outter layer of your eyeball. The dead tissue is carried out by tears.
