How does the K04 do with fish?

I was thinking about getting a K04 SE for filleting and cleaning fish and wanted to know if anyone uses one in that way and how they like it.

Save the K04 for the wedding.
The serrations will work OK for most gutting and cutting but will make sort of a mess out of a fillet. Not to say it won't work but you'd be better served with a fillet knife for the job.

Quoting Sal from a recent thread..

The most desired knives for gutting among professional fisherman in the pacific northwest was the serrated K05 with the red handle. Cut like a witch, stayed sharp a long time. Easy to find. When they started to dull, they'd throw them away and get a new one. They used them by the hundreds. They really felt bad when we stopped making them about 10 years ago.

Just got back from the meeting the maker and we'll be remaking them. Hope to have them by October this year.

If you can wait till October the K05 may be a better choice

That's partly where the thought came from. The K04 seems to be basically a longer K05 so I was thinking it should work the same just with added length for filleting.

I'll probably end up getting one to try anyway, I just wanted to see if anyone else had already tried.

Let us know how you like it.. I have recently gotten back into fishing after a 10 year break and actually just let a catcherman go to the next guy in the classifieds because I decided I would rather have a fixed blade

I'll be sure to do that.

It would be cool if spyderco added a fixed fillet knife to the salt series. I'd bet it would sell pretty good and it would round out the series that basically was designed for fishermen.

Yes that would be good!An Aqua Salt sprint would be nice also...

I first saw one of those not to long ago on here and I really liked the design. I'd have a hard time trying to resist if they did a sprint.
