How does the knife exchange work?

I looked at the stickies but still not sure. I would ask there but you are not supposed to make anything but posts involving the sale of a knife.

Lets say I see a knife I am interested in, in a thread. I see that people will make a post that they are interested in it but what happens next? Do you IM the person or email them? Do they email you?

If the prices is negotiable how do you negotiate it?

Sorry if this is a stupid question. I've only recently entertained the idea of purchasing used knives. I get mine to use, getting them already used for a little less only makes sense. I've sold a couple on ebay a long time ago but I don't like to do business there.

I saw some knives I am interested in but I don't want to break protocol and get in trouble. :)

Anyone can buy, only people with memberships can sell. If you are wanting to buy or make and offer, you can post and say "I'll take it" and then email them via their profile.

Usually post on the thread that you will take it. Then contact the seller via visitor message or email the conclude the sale.

Try to keep negotiation out of the thread. I find haggling in thread to be rude.

SeND them an email or you can post visitor message.

If you want to alert them, you can post in the thread that you sent an email, or vm.

I have done 20 or more deals with no problems on here.

Good luck.

One thing to avoid, don't use Gift option on paypal!

Be warned that in a sales thread that states OBO and you send a pm to make an offer, you may not get the knife. The first person to post "I'll take it" at the asking price gets the knife and your negotiating a lower price will not be honored. I've lost out on a couple of knives doing just that, especially with a knife that is in high demand.
The time stamp of " I'll take it" is honored if the seller is off line. Follow up with an email or pm regarding the sale so you can get the necessary info for payment.

What are the negatives of using the gift option? I've been wondering. Or should I put this in the stupid question thread?

The negative is that you have no recourse with PayPal should anything go wrong.

The negative of using the gift option is just that its a gift. You have no recourse with paypal if an unscrupulous seller declines to send you what you bought or it ifs lost or your unhappy with it. You gave them a gift, you did not purchase goods.

Really if someone requests a gift payment or that you pay the paypal fees, I just move on to the next rather than deal with them. There will always be another of the same thing offered for sale without violating paypals policies or simply giving them your money.

I'm hoping to nab a benchmade 705 at a good price. It's the only way I can justify purchasing another knife. :D Plus, I will not hesitate to use a slightly used knife.

Wow, that sounded good. I wonder if I can use that to purchase a slightly used chris reeve. :p

Thats the way I've bought several chris Reeve knives, easy to pick them up in perfectly good shape for a good savings from retail and if you get tired of them or aren't impressed you can always get your money back with little loss.

Folks, please read the posted Exchange rules. There is PLENTY of information in the STICKY'd threads at the top of the sales sections. They contain all the information you can possibly need.

Sticky: Production & Midtech folders only! Read Me! (Updated 3/22/14)

After reading the above, read some sales thread and look to see what people are doing. It's all about communication. Your integrity is the only thing you will be judged on. If you commit to do something, follow through. Do a little research BEFORE buying anything. Make sure the seller has a good track record of communication, good attitude, and has a vested interest in the community. That lessens the chances for anything to go wrong.
