How does the Ti-lock hold up? Pics?

I was thinking about getting another equally expensive knife, but then I remembered the Ti-lock and I'm considering getting one.

One question I have is how it holds up in the long run. Specifically with regards to these points:
  1. Ball bearings wearing on the titanium handle
  2. Wear on the lock bar/interface
  3. Reduced tension in the spring
  4. (Cosmetic) Anodizing of the spring and the studs (not the lock bar itself, which I expect to wear).

I would appreciate pictures of a well worn Ti-lock if anyone has the time to post them.

Refer to this take-down thread for pictures on the internals. I've also read this excellent review.

An additional question: which size CRK pouch would be right for the Ti-lock? The same as the one for the small Sebenza?

edit: oh, the lock bar(/thumbstuds) is actually bronze and not anodized titanium. So only the spring is anodized.

I do carry my TiLock, but not very often. I didn't use it hard, just some easy stuff like cutting boxes, string, etc. I just enjoy the mechanical excellence of it. I love playing with it. Personally I'd not count on many well-used TiLocks

Thanks for replying. I wasn't expecting anyone hard using the ti-lock. I'm more curious how it holds up in general EDC use for a few years. I've carried my small sebenza off and on for two years (mostly in a pouch) and it only has a few cosmetic signs of wear, including losing some of the anodising of the thumb stud from opening the knife. The anodising seems to have held up well on your ti-lock.

The reason I asked about the bearings is simply that all other knives that I've seen seem to have a steel washer between the bearings and the titanium.

I would expect the TiLock to hold up for many years of use. Mr. Reeve would not stamp his name on any knife that wouldn't.

I don't doubt that it's a quality piece, or I wouldn't be considering buying it at that price. I don't think my questions are too ridiculous, though. Questions like these are asked (and answered) in the Spyderco forum all the time.

No one said your question was ridiculous. I never meant to insinuate that either.

I know. I couldn't find the right word, so I went with the closest thing I could think of at the moment. I'm sure you get the gist of it. I'm not accusing anyone of anything.

Ok. Regardless, I had completely forgotten about the TiLock. This thread has got me interested in it again.

The only thing that will save the Ti-Lock from the general luke-warm 'meh' reception it receives is it being discontinued. From that day forward it will become legendary, and all of its fine attributes and advantages will be discussed in great detail. I keep thinking I'll pick one up, then I think 'meh'. :D

The Ti-Lock really captivated me for quite awhile, and I had the chance to finally experience it a couple weeks back. The ergos are outstanding, that knife just melts into your hand..... outstanding!!! I never had a chance to cut with it but I'm sure it would handle an EDC role just fine, but thats kinda where it stopped for me, it was a little bit boring. It was basic to open, and slow to close I guess the fun factor of the knife shut it down...... but i'm sure I'll consider it again someday if find myself looking for a solid EDC blade.

This is (so far) my only Chris Reeve knife, and my choice is partly explained by my background as a physical scientist. Its design and engineering are very different from conventional knives, and as others have mentioned, its ergonomics are hard to describe - words like "astonishing" come to mind.

While I very much look forward to adding other Chris Reeve knives to my collection (a Sebenza 25 is next on my list), the Ti-lock is much more than merely unusual, just as the Sebenza is much more than merely being perfect in its simplicity.

It's surprisingly hard to put into words the many things that make each of Chris Reeve's knives so desirable.
