How does the warranty work with models no longer offered?

I was battoning a pretty stubborn piece of incense cedar to turn into fire boards for friction fire kits with my NMSFNO and the first three hits or so i could hear a ringing/tinging sound. I usually don’t baton, and when i do its never with pieces this big so i was pretty nervous when i heard the noises. after about 5 hits though it cracked right open. I was battoning it to make the boards since they need to be relatively flat. I had tried using an axe and it just split off random chunks, i think it was due to a twist in the grain as well as some knots. Anyway, it got me thinking about the warranty and what would happen if this knife failed at that moment. Since it is no longer produced, would Busse just make a one off? Do they have blanks laying around?
If so how many?
Also, has anyone else had an experience battoning and hearing a sound like that? The knife seems fine and i plan on using it more!
I think my anxiety came from reading about hearing a similar sound when someone was battoning and their blade snapped.

They will give you credit for how much they originally sold it for, not how much you bought it for or how much it is currently worth.

Thanks for the info.

That seems pretty fair, you can just buy another model from their current lineup then.

I always assumed they would replace it with something similar of their choosing.

Without a doubt the best warranty in the game.

I had no idea that that is how their warranty worked with discontinued items. It shouldn’t be surprising to me though, that is basically how most warranties from other companies work with something that has been discontinued.

Also, if they still have a blank available they may replace it with another NMSFNO. If I were you I would follow the advice in the sticky thread above about contacting Busse if you have an issue. I don't think there are many folk wo have been at all dissatisfied with how Jerry has dealt with issues. It is a point of pride to them.

It's most likely the handles not the blade

I think it was just the way the blade was vibrating from being stuck that made the noise. It didnt do it after that first split and all hardware seems tight!

It is always best to ask the maker. 1000%
Anything else is speculation. some is very very good speculation :)
I have been using and abusing them for years and have yet to have one break.

what were you using to baton with ?
A piece of madrone a little thicker than my wrist and about 5-7 inches long, i was trying ti be conservative lol

The only noise my HR2 made was from hammering the spine with a sledge through wood for weeks.
I think the noise might have been a harmonic fluke. It was wedged with a bit of the tip exposed and with each hit the sound got higher.
It sounds like you really beat on your knives, good to know they hold up!

First. It will not fail.

Second, on a freak chance that it does, I may be wrong, but think you'd end up with a knife again, and you'll be happy.

The Company warranty is unquestionable.
I wasn’t trying to question the warranty, and i’m sorry if it came off that way, i was just genuinely curious as to HOW that would work. And what that might look like. Not IF they would stand by their warranty.

It's ok my friend.... you are in safe hands. Take a sledge and cut some bolts( I have done that plenty). Chop a car in half, use it as hard as you like. You still not gonna need the warranty, and buy a few more.

I've never used the Busse Guaranter, & for this speculation, it is a good idea to re-state that I do not work for Busse Combat in any capacity past volunteer forum moderation here. With that disclaimer in place, I'd say that 1.) The guarantee states that Busse will choose to repair or replace the knife in question at their discretion, & 2.) If neither is an option, I believe that they offer the original sale value of the damaged knife as a shop credit towards another Busse (or 'Kin) knife of your choice.

Garth Reckner Garth Reckner , am I correct here? 🤔🙂

Exactly, The only knife that I ever sent in for warranty work was one that I intentionally damaged. I did not expect a replacement and just sent Jerry the knife so he could see the damage INFI took when ground to 14-15dps and hammering through nails. My intent was to see if the continued hammering on the spine of the blade would induce a fracture that would break the knife. It never happened, after 7 minutes of continuous hammering on the spine of the little knife. The only damage was indentation along the edge. I got it back looking new.

The chances of breaking a Busse are slim to none. If you do, you can guaranty you were doing something that you shouldn't have been, like me above. Funny though, Cliff Stamp owned this knife since 1998 and he pretty much broke everything that was marketed as unbreakable. He never broke this. And he tried.
