OK vegetable gardeners, it's getting to be about time for some bragging going on around here.

I haven't picked a tomato yet, but I will in a couple of days. I'm growing all heirloom varieties this year.

I'm growing Eight-Ball zucchinis too and I've probably picked about a bushel and I've been mostly grilling them, roasting them, and every time we go to a picnic my wife makes her famous Zucchini Parmesan. Actually, my wife's recipe is why I grow the 8-balls - they are round zucchini so you get nice big round slices (without "overgrowing" your squash) and you don't have to flour, egg, and fry hundreds of smaller diameter pieces. You make it just like eggplant parmesan, but it's lighter and "fresher" tasting. Mmmmm....

We have had two tomatoes from the garden already. First time I can ever remember having a ripe tomato from the garden in July here in Wisconsin.

Lots of green ones on the vine. Fried green tomoatoes one of these evenings!

We gave up on tomatoes up in my neighborhood. The growing season starts late at 7,200 foot elevation and for the last two years heavy hail hit just before picking season. When it hits, the tomato plants look like a tossed salad with squashed tomatoes. All the leaves and most of the stalks are broken and chopped up. I was barbequeing last night and we got a small burst of hail. It helps clear the beer drinkers off your deck in a hurry.
