I have carried a knife for years now and have always gone with something "hard use". I have been using ZT for the past 6-7 years and just got my first Spyderco the other day. Love it!! alot of the reading I have been doing is talking about fake Spyderco's. The more reading I'm doing I can't help but find myself paranoid of any deal or discount off just about any website, our own exchange included.

Being that I am coming from a different platform to Spyderco I want to give the brand a proper chance to find its way into my pocket but have been uneasy on making a purchase (I would like a military).

Where do I draw the line? And how truly prevalent are the fakes that could come from reputable websites?

I wouldn't worry if I purchased them off a reputable site. Its when you go to ebay, and people with no feedback that you should be concerned.

Buy from a dealer that has a good reputation, nothing more needs to be done. This topic gets extremely overcomplicated to the point of ridiculousness. If someone wants an authentic item and not a counterfeit or reproduction, then you go to the place which only deals with the genuine article. There are a lot of people out there that want to buy things that are possibly beyond their financial means, so they roll the dice on what appears to be the real deal at an unbeatable price. You might get lucky, or you might get burned. It takes a long time to get the taste of ashes out of your mouth.

Some folks tout eBay is the best place, maybe for those with years of experience with what they are buying or years of experience on eBay itself. For the regular first time buyer, they might not know as much as that person, they don't know what to look for, they don't know better. Can you save a few bucks buying from one place over another? Absolutely. Do some stores offer better service and faster shipping than others, yes of course. Only you know what you want, what you are willing to pay, and what risks you are willing to take. Best of luck.
